The Lübeck-Travemünde Strand train station (also known as the Strandbahnhof ) is a listed station building in the Lübeck district of Travemünde . It is one of a total of three Travemünde train stations next to the former port station and the stop at Skandinavienkai . The head station forms the end point of the railway line Lübeck-Travemuende beach between the Lübeck Main and Travemünde. In operational terms, Lübeck-Travemünde Strand is not a train station, but a stopping point .
history
The builder of the station was the Lübeck-Büchener Eisenbahn , which opened the railway line from Lübeck to Travemünde in 1882. This initially ended at the port station and was extended to the beach station in 1898. At that time a wooden station building was erected, which was replaced in 1911/1912 by the new building built by Fritz Klingholz with elements of Art Nouveau . The steel frame building includes the reception building with a triangular gable and lunette . In 1991 the station was placed under a preservation order. A special feature is the clock tower , whose departure display is also a listed building. The station had three head tracks with a covered side platform and a covered central platform.
The building was redesigned mainly inside until 2006. The floor was renewed according to the old model, masonry was removed from the steel framework and glazing was inserted, automatically opening doors and handicapped-accessible toilets were installed. The listed roofs of the indoor platform and the cross platform were also renovated. The costs of 2.3 million euros were borne by Deutsche Bahn AG, the federal government, the Hanseatic City of Lübeck, the State of Schleswig-Holstein, the Possehl Foundation and the non-profit association of Travemünde. The station building contained shops, restaurants and a tourist “welcome center”. The Godewindpark green area is located immediately north of the train station .
In 2011 the southern platform, prepared as a combined platform for a later bus connection, was renewed barrier-free for 1.4 million euros .
The centenary of the station was celebrated in 2012 with the special exhibition “100 Years of Travemünde Beach Station” in the Herrenwyk History Workshop .
On March 12, 2015, Deutsche Bahn announced the sale of the station building and justified this with the poor location. That's why it was difficult to find tenants. The building was in a sorry state. The toilets were closed in 2014 and infected with mold. Outside, the second platform, which is no longer used, was completely overgrown. In October 2015, a pilot from Lübeck bought the station building for 760,000 euros. Among other things, he plans to use the reception building for catering purposes, to relocate shops and to present the history of the station in one area.
