A departure board is a dynamic or static display board for passengers that provides information about departing regular services (so-called "scheduled departure"). Arrival boards provide information about the incoming traffic. In contrast to timetables , both tables usually only show the direction of the train, the time of departure or arrival, the type of train and the platform. Most of the information is sorted by time, but it can also be sorted by train station .

In Switzerland, static boards are known as departure posters. In larger train stations there are often additional central departure boards that show all the departing means of transport at a glance . Usually the associated track is also displayed. At airports one speaks of a departure board .

Dynamic ad technology

So-called fall - leaf indicators are still used most frequently . They consist of a housing with rotating plastic disks, which together give the place names. The panes can be printed in almost any way you want and thus allow an individual design. Other technologies include LCD , LED or CRT displays. Often these are also referred to as dynamic passenger information (DFI) due to their dynamism . The exact time until departure is displayed in minutes , very rarely in seconds ; it often play radio - and GPS - locating a role.
