The Goetheanlage is a park in Kassel .

history

In 1902 the Drusel was canalized and straightened. The Goetheanlage was designed in the mid-1920s and completed in 1933. The garden was opened to the public on May 28, 1933. The facility consists of the Goethe facility and the surrounding residential buildings in Kassel Geysostraße and Herkulesstraße. The municipal building authorities had the goal of creating a modern quarter with two schools and a green area in the center. The higher boys' school was not realized, but instead the deaconess hospital was built. The Heinrich Schütz School was built in the west . The garden was designed by the city gardening director Rudolf Stier and the city planning officer Labsplanned. Several thousand cubic meters of waste, rubble and soil were collected for the Goethe facility and filled up to a flat area. The Goetheanlage is still below the Goethestrasse level. The concept envisaged an easy-care, publicly accessible Volksgarten . Lawns were created for games and sports, a circular path was laid out and bushes and trees were planted. In 1934 a kiosk was opened. During the Second World War , two water tanks were built in 1944/45. One was backfilled after the war , the second was converted into an ice rink in 1954 and later into a street ball field . In 1956 the Goetheanlage was redesigned by city gardening director Albrecht von Eichel-Streiber and the children's playground in the east was redesigned. The kiosk was demolished in 2011/12. The stairs and the entrances to the Goetheanlage were renewed and the water extinguishing basin was structurally upgraded.

The Goetheanlage is a listed building as a whole. The green area is a garden cultural monument.
