Golden Four

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Golden Four was a four-meeting track and field series that ran from 1993 to 1997.

The series made stops in Oslo ( Bislett Games ), Zurich ( Weltklasse Zürich ), Brussels ( Memorial Van Damme ) and Berlin ( ISTAF ). The four competitors merged in 1993 and let themselves be marketed together by the rights exploiter Ufa. Athletes who won all four meetings in their discipline shared 20 kg of gold (approx. 400,000 D-Marks). The final was always in Berlin. As a successor, the IAAF Golden League was founded in 1998 by the World Athletics Federation , a series with the four Golden Four cities, expanded to include Rome ( Golden Gala ) and Monaco ( Herculis ).
