content

The soldier Saichi Sugimoto ( 杉 元 佐 一 ), a veteran of the Russo-Japanese War , tries to earn money by prospecting gold in Hokkaido to take care of the widow of a fallen comrade. After he was attacked and meets the young Ainu Asirpa, he goes with her on a search for a legendary gold treasure that is said to have been stolen from the Ainu. The thief, Noppera-bō, later sat in prison for a long time and tattooed other prisoners notes on the body with which one can find the treasure. After Sugimoto and Asirpa met the first hunters of the tatoos and killed one of them themselves, they realize that the victims must be killed in order to collapse the clues on their bodies. Still, they want to keep searching, capturing their targets only to get the tattoos to be drawn.

Asirpa and Sugimoto are not only attacked and have to hide from others who are looking for the treasure, but often retreat to the winter forests of Hokkaido. Asirpa's skills as an Ainu, who is very knowledgeable about hunting, help them there. In the battles they both benefit from skill and experience, since Sugimoto was famous in the army as "The Immortal". But the army is also looking for them, especially units under Lieutenant Tsurumi, who was seriously wounded in the head in the war.
