Goldina works

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Goldina factory , originally Abel's chocolate factory , was a complex of factories in Bremen. Built in 1909 in Sebaldsbrück on Sebaldsbrücker Chaussee (today Sebaldsbrücker Heerstraße ) at the corner of Trinidadstraße, it was incorporated into Bremen in 1921 . The buildings were demolished around 1981, and a Kaufland branch has been located on the property since 2010.

Franz Abels

Franz Abels from Krefeld founded "Abels Schokoladen-Werke GmbH" in 1909 with several Bremen merchants, including Franz Schütte , which built the factory and produced chocolate and cocoa there from January 1910. The company went bankrupt in 1912, Abels re-founded it in Bremen, first at the Domshof , later on Ausser der Schleifmühle . Advertising stamps showed the Bremen flag with the Bremen key and the words "Abels". Abels emigrated to Berlin in 1929, where his company continued until 1934.

The Sebaldsbrücker plant from 1912 to 1980

The Sebaldsbrücker plant belonged to the merchants who had financed it. In July 1912 they founded a new company for production, which they called “Hanseatische Kakao und Schokolade AG”. Since there was already a company with this name in Altona, the new company had to be renamed in October 1912 and was now called "Weser-Werke, Kakao und Schokolade AG". "Goldina" was used as the brand name, and from 1922 the company was called "Goldina AG" after this successful brand name.

After the stock market crash in 1929 , the "Goldina" got into financial difficulties and in 1931 was taken over by the Cologne company Stollwerck . The Bremen branch was closed in 1937, so the name Goldina became extinct. During the Second World War , a prisoner-of-war camp for workers from Focke-Wulf aircraft construction was set up in the building.

After the end of the war, the undestroyed buildings were used by numerous companies. Stollwerck produced chocolate in the factory until the early 1960s. In 1969 there was a Stollwerck AG managed from Cologne in the building, which is now at Sebaldsbrücker Heerstraße 151.

Further use of the property

The old buildings were demolished in the early 1980s. The EKT shopping center, also called Sebaldcenter, was opened on the site in 1987, but was never really accepted by the population and was therefore torn down again in 2009. Kaufland then built a new house and has been operating a branch there since February 2010.
