The Golden Conure ( Guaruba guarouba ) is a species of bird in the family of authentics Parrots . It occurs in South America .

The golden parakeet was previously assigned to the Macaws (Aratingas) as Aratinga guarouba , but because of its special shape, color and behavior, it is listed in a separate genus today.

He is about 34-36 centimeters tall and weighs about 250 g. Its plumage is golden yellow, the hand and arm wings are dark green. Its beak is horn-colored, the dark circles are white and the iris is brown. Its colors correspond to those of the Brazilian national flag, which is why it is also considered the national bird of Brazil .

The golden parakeet occurs in the rainforests of the mouth of the Amazon in South America.

Stock situation

The golden parakeet was included in Appendix I of the Washington Convention on Endangered Species , which prohibits trade in these animals.
