Golf cart
A golf cart or golf course vehicle , golf cart , ClubCar , ClubCart , Golfcar , Golfcart , or cart , buggy , also transferring golf caddy , is a small land vehicle with an electric or gasoline engine that allows the quick or comfortable transport of one or two golfers and their golf clubs on a - usually extensive - golf course .
Most vehicles are two-seater, covered and powered by an electric motor. The golf equipment is usually stowed vertically at the rear in a golf bag (like skis in a cable car ). The three main manufacturers are Club Car , EZ-GO and Yamaha . A few vehicles are even cross-country and allow locomotion off the beaten track on golf courses.
In most countries, including Germany , road approval is only possible with additional equipment such as adapted lighting, flashing lights and license plate holders. The greatest obstacle to approval is the requirement for a dual-circuit brake system , which can only be retrofitted with greater effort. However, it can usually be ordered at a surcharge when buying a new one.
Other areas of application
At major airports and train stations, the golf cart is also used within the passenger area for the transport of disabled people and is then usually equipped with a rotating beacon and a horn .
Within larger closed residential complexes , vehicles of this type are used for everyday locomotion instead of “full-fledged” cars ( Neighborhood Electric Vehicle ). For example, in The Villages in Florida with over 50,000 inhabitants, almost every household has such a vehicle.
The increased use leads to more accidents. A 2008 study found that children under the age of 16 were often injured after falling out of the car or being thrown.
