The Golf Club Bergisch Land Wuppertal eV in Wuppertal is one of the older German golf clubs with its golf course .
Willy Schniewind , who later became President of the German Golf Association , was the initiator of the club's founding in 1928. Ten manufacturers met for this purpose in the Concordia company in Barmen .
The renowned English golf course designer John Stanton Fleming Morrison planned the first nine-hole course. This was on the grounds of the court to the mills of the old-established family Schniewind in the neighborhood Seven Eick in Elberfeld north in what is now the municipality Uellendahl-Katerberg built. Morrison also carried out the first expansion to 13 lanes in 1958. Five years later, Bernhard von Limburger was responsible for the third expansion stage on 18 holes .
The par 72 course is located in park-like, very hilly terrain; the often hanging lanes and greens , defused in 2007/2008, make it particularly challenging.
A member of the club was the former professional golfer Katharina Schallenberg , but the most prominent member is likely to be Martin Kaymer , who lives in neighboring Mettmann and who previously competed for the Bundesliga club.
