Gomer ( Hebrew גֹּמֶר) is the eldest son of Japhet according to the table of people in Genesis 10.2 EU . His brothers are Magog , Madai , Jawan , Tubal , Meschech , and Tiras . Ashkenaz , who was often equated with the Scythians or the Goths, is found among the sons of Gomer . Edouard Dhorme believes it is beyond doubt that the biblical omer corresponds to the Assyrian Gimirri (Gi-mir-ra-aa). With that they would be equated with Herodotus' cimmer Following Homer, Alberto Soggin also identified Gomer with the Cimmerians who lived in the 8th century BC. B.C. to the northern edge of the Assyrian Empire, does not consider the Ashkenas, but the Magog of the Table of Nations for the Scythians.

In the Middle Ages, the Cimbri were linked to Gomer as the ancestors of the British .

Gomer had three sons according to Gen 10.3  EU and 1 Chr 1.6  EU :
