Gonni ( Greek Γόννοι ( m. Pl. ); Latin name Gonnus , older Greek name Gonnos, alternative transcription Gonnoi ) is a small Greek town and district in the municipality of Tembi in the Thessaly region . The name leads back to the ancient city of Gonni or Gonnos.

Gonni has about 1900 inhabitants.
history
In a slope called Kastri near the contemporary Gonnoi lie the remains of the ancient city of Gonnos or Gonni.
In 1912 the place was recognized as a rural municipality Dereli (gr. Κοινότητα Δερελίου) and renamed Gonni in 1927.
In 1997, after the incorporation of two neighboring towns, Gonni was raised to the status of a municipality (dimos) . In 2010 this municipality was merged with the neighboring municipalities of Ambelakia, Kato Olymbos, Makrychori and Nessonas to form the new municipality of Tembi, in which Gonni has since formed a municipality that is subdivided as follows:
- Gonni district - Δ. Κ. Γόννων - 1,983 inhabitants
- Gonni - Γόννοι - 1,909 inhabitants
- Elea - Ελαία - 74 inhabitants
- Local community Itea - Τ. Κ. Ιτέας (Ιτέα) - 162 inhabitants
- Local community Kallipefki - Τ. Κ. Καλλιπεύκης (Καλλιπεύκη) - 317 inhabitants
traffic
The Piraeus – Thessaloniki railway touches the municipality. There was a train station in Kallipefki , which is located in the municipality, but is no longer served today.
