Gonni ( Greek Γόννοι ( m. Pl. ); Latin name Gonnus , older Greek name Gonnos, alternative transcription Gonnoi ) is a small Greek town and district in the municipality of Tembi in the Thessaly region . The name leads back to the ancient city of Gonni or Gonnos.

geography

Gonni has about 1900 inhabitants.

history

In a slope called Kastri near the contemporary Gonnoi lie the remains of the ancient city of Gonnos or Gonni.

In 1912 the place was recognized as a rural municipality Dereli (gr. Κοινότητα Δερελίου) and renamed Gonni in 1927.

In 1997, after the incorporation of two neighboring towns, Gonni was raised to the status of a municipality (dimos) . In 2010 this municipality was merged with the neighboring municipalities of Ambelakia, Kato Olymbos, Makrychori and Nessonas to form the new municipality of Tembi, in which Gonni has since formed a municipality that is subdivided as follows:

  • Gonni district - Δ. Κ. Γόννων - 1,983 inhabitants
    • Gonni - Γόννοι - 1,909 inhabitants
    • Elea - Ελαία - 74 inhabitants
  • Local community Itea - Τ. Κ. Ιτέας (Ιτέα) - 162 inhabitants
  • Local community Kallipefki - Τ. Κ. Καλλιπεύκης (Καλλιπεύκη) - 317 inhabitants
