Goodgame Empire is a browser-based multiplayer online - strategy video game of the German game developer Goodgame Studios , which was released in August 2011th Today the game has more than 80 million registered players worldwide and is available in 25 languages. The game has been available as an app under the name “Empire: Four Kingdoms” since January 2013 for Apple's iOS operating system and the Android operating system.
Game content
Goodgame Empire is set in a medieval scenario. At the beginning, the players receive a small castle in the great empire, which will also be the central location from now on. Then it is important to expand them, to enlarge them and to equip them with buildings in order to generate raw materials and thus to expand the influence in the game world. To do this, the players have to solve tasks for which there are rewards, establish a functioning economy, fight against computer-controlled enemies and other players, and form alliances with fellow players. As the game progresses, players have the opportunity to conquer outposts. These are then expanded like the main castle.
In addition to the economic part, there is also a military part, in which the players recruit military units. These are used to defend your own castle, to plunder other castles and to conquer outposts. In addition to direct combat, espionage and sabotage, for example the spread of epidemics, are also available.
Players can play for themselves or form alliances with fellow players. Such alliances make it possible, for example, to exchange goods with one another, to plan attack strategies together or to protect one another from attacks.
More kingdoms will be unlocked as the Empire progresses. The players can then build settlements and mine exclusive raw materials in the Everwinter Glacier, on the Storm Islands, in the Burning Sands and on the Fire Peaks. In order to gain access to the kingdoms, the player must first have reached a certain level limit and pay raw materials as entry costs. In Goodgame Empire there are 70 main levels and by level 70, there are still 800 additional Legend level.
Empire: Four Kingdoms
The specially developed mobile app Empire: Four Kingdoms was released in 2013 for mobile iOS and Android devices . In terms of content, the browser game Goodgame Empire and Empire: Four Kingdoms are in most respects the same , but the servers of the two games are independent of each other. Empire: Four Kingdoms currently has more than 70 million registered users. The analysis tool App Annie lists Empire: Four Kingdoms in the years 2013 to 2015 as the world's top-selling app from a German developer.
Business model
Goodgame Empire and Empire: Four Kingdoms are free-to-play games. So every user can play the game for free and make progress. There is an option to purchase rubies in the game. Rubies are a game currency with which certain features can be bought at Empire - these include, among other things, the acceleration of construction processes, the purchase of premium buildings and units or the acquisition of additional resource packages. Rubies are also available within the game in a low frequency, so that most of the game content is generally accessible free of charge if the player invests more time. However, a few items of content are only activated when real money has been used. This includes buying special armor or using the wheel of fortune in the so-called professional mode.
