Goodrich Corporation (formerly: BF Goodrich Company , BFGoodrich ) was a US company based in Charlotte , North Carolina . The company was listed in the S&P 500 .

The company was founded in Akron in 1870 by Benjamin Goodrich as Goodrich, Tew & Co. In 1880 the company's name changed to BF Goodrich Company , in the 1980s to BFGoodrich and in 2001 to Goodrich Corporation .

Among other things, the company is also responsible for the development of the zipper .

In 1981 BF Goodrich had an annual turnover of 1.16 billion US dollars and a world market share of 3.9 percent for car tires.

In 1986 the company merged with Uniroyal (formerly United States Rubber Company ) and became one of the world's leading manufacturers of tires and rubber. In 1988 this product area with the tire brand Goodrich was sold to Michelin , which it still markets today. In 1997, Goodrich acquired Rohr Industries and Coltec Industries . In 2002 TRW Aeronautical Systems (formerly Lucas Aerospace ) was bought from TRW Inc. The spin-off of the specialty chemicals and diesel engine division (now: EnPro Industries ) and the change of the company name completed the restructuring of the company.

In 2011 the company was taken over by United Technologies Corporation . In 2012 Goodrich was merged with Hamilton Sundstrand to form UTC Aerospace Systems .

Others

Along with Goodyear, Goodrich was an important airship manufacturer in the USA and delivered some US military airships to the armed forces of the USA , especially during the First World War and in the interwar period .

Because of the popularity of the Goodrich tire brand, the company uses the slogan " See that blimp up in the sky? We're the other guys! " This also alludes to its competitor Goodyear , which also makes impact airships.
