Google Labs was a collection of services from Google Inc. that were still in beta .

These were, for example, new search functions, browser plug-ins or personalized web services. As a rule, new services were initially only available in English, which, if successful, were later localized and transferred to the official service overview page. There they usually stayed in beta for some time. Services that were not rated as successful were discontinued after a while.

On July 20, 2011, the official Google Blog announced the discontinuation of Google Labs. Existing experiments were integrated into other projects or are being discontinued , such as Google Code Search . The reason given was to want to bundle forces on fewer projects in the future. Experimental functions of other services such as Gmail are just as unaffected as applications for the Android mobile operating system that are already available in the Google Play Store .

On October 17, 2011, Google Labs was closed because Google wanted to concentrate on the social network Google+ , which has now also been closed .

Sample projects

Google Sets
