Gordon Banks (born June 14, 1955 ) is a British politician .

Political career

For the first time, Banks competed in the 2005 general election to national elections. He applied for the Labor Party for the mandate of the constituency of Ochil and South Perthshire , which was newly created in the course of the 2005 constituency reform. With a share of the vote of 31.4%, Banks narrowly prevailed against his opponents, including the SNP politician Annabelle Ewing and the conservative Elizabeth Smith , and subsequently moved into the British House of Commons for the first time . In Parliament, he was appointed Parliamentary Private Secretary under Minister James Purnell in the areas of labor and pensions, as well as culture, media and sport .

In the following general election in 2010, Banks increased his share of the vote and thus defended his mandate. In the Labor Party's shadow cabinet , Banks initially held a junior ministerial post for economics and innovation after the elections, and from 2011 he was earmarked for a similar post in the Scotland Ministry . After losing votes, however, Banks left the House of Commons in the 2015 general election . The mandate was won by the SNP candidate Tasmina Ahmed-Sheikh .
