Gordon Sawyer
Gordon E. Sawyer (born August 27, 1905 in Santa Barbara , California , † March 15, 1980 ibid) was an American sound director .
Life
Sawyer first worked for Goldwyn Picture Corporation and later worked for the successor company Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. In total, he worked there for over 50 years. During that time he won three Academy Awards of Merit for his performance in the films Every Woman Needs an Angel (1947), Alamo (1960) and West Side Story (1961), and was nominated 13 more times. In 1977 he was awarded the John A. Bonner Medal .
The Gordon E. Sawyer Award is named after him and is given to an individual for special achievements in the scientific and technical field of the film industry.
