Every woman needs an angel , also known as angels are everywhere (original title: The Bishop's Wife ), is an American love story with Cary Grant and Loretta Young from 1947. A novel by Robert Nathan served as a literary model .

action

Shortly before Christmas, Bishop Henry Brougham asked for God's help to raise funds to build a new cathedral. Shortly afterwards, an angel appears in the place in the form of a handsome man named Dudley. But this was not sent from heaven to help Henry finance his construction project, but to bring him and his community back together. However, Henry neglects not only his community but also his unhappy wife Julia. She is immediately taken with the charming Dudley. Even the shy professor Wutheridge likes the mysterious newcomer.

To Henry's chagrin, Dudley persuades the wealthy widow, Mrs. Hamilton, to donate her money to the city's needy instead of the cathedral. In addition, he secretly changes Henry's Christmas speech and saves an old church from demolition by awakening new interest in the boys' choir. When Dudley also wants to take care of Julia and wants to cheer her up, he feels surprisingly drawn to her during their moments together, which Henry does not miss either. Out of jealousy, he can hardly wait for Dudley to disappear again. When Dudley realizes that Julia is still the most important thing in Henry's life, he considers his mission complete and leaves the scene. On Christmas Eve, Henry reads Dudley's sermon to the assembled congregation.
