Gordon Waller

Gordon Trueman Riviere Waller (born June 4, 1945 in Braemar , Scotland , United Kingdom , † July 17, 2009 in Norwich , Connecticut , United States ) was a Scottish singer, songwriter and guitarist. He was best known as a member of the pop duo Peter & Gordon .

biography

At Westminster School , Waller met his classmate Peter Asher , with whom he began to perform as a music duo in cafes and clubs. From 1962 they called themselves Peter & Gordon . In 1964 they had their biggest hit with A World Without Love , written by Paul McCartney , who was then with Jane Asher, who was with Peter's sister at the time. Through this acquaintance, the duo often received unpublished material from McCartney to record.

After separating from Peter & Gordon, Waller tried a solo career. In 1968 his first single, Rosencrans Boulevard , was released, which, like the successor, remained quite unsuccessful. The debut album and Gordon (1972) also sold poorly.

From 1971 Waller appeared as Pharaoh in the musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat . In this role he can also be heard on the 1974 album for the musical.

Disappointed by the lack of a breakthrough, Waller retired from the music business to the country. Waller later went to California , where he founded the music publisher "Steel Wallet International" with his partner Georgiana Steele.

In 2007 Waller released the solo album Plays the Beatles , followed by Rebel Rider in 2008 . Since 2005, Peter Asher and Gordon Waller have occasionally appeared together again. They gave their last concert together in early July 2009 in Las Vegas .

Gordon Waller died that same month of a heart attack in Connecticut, where he last lived.
