Gorges de l'Ardèche is the name given to the great gorge in the last third of the Ardèche river between Vallon-Pont-d'Arc and Saint-Martin-d'Ardèche in France. The second half of the gorge downstream also forms the border of the Ardèche and Gard departments .

geography

The gorge begins to the northwest with the natural stone arch of the Pont d'Arc and ends at the towns of Aiguèze and the district of Sauze ( Saint-Martin-d'Ardèche ) in the southeast. A tourist road (D 290) with many viewpoints runs high above the gorge, the gorge itself is under strict nature protection.

Neighborhoods

The Gorges de l'Ardèche are located on the territory of seven municipalities in the Ardèche department ( Vallon-Pont-d'Arc , Salavas , Labastide-de-Virac , Saint-Remèze , Bidon , Saint-Marcel-d'Ardèche and Saint-Martin -d'Ardèche ). Two municipalities in the southwest of the gorge Le Garn and Aiguèze are located in the Gard department.

The Gorges de l'Ardèche are the tourist magnet of the department. The great gorge has been a classic of canoeing and kayaking for decades. The panoramic road attracts motorcycle and bicycle tourists. Numerous campsites, hotels and restaurants are located at the access roads to the gorge.
