from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The name Goshen ( Hebrew גֹּשֶׁן) in the Old Testament denotes an area in Egypt and a city in Judah. In older Bible editions the name is still given as Gosen and thus follows the spelling in the Septuagint .

Goschem region

An area called Goschem is located between the eastern Nile Delta and what is now the Suez Canal . It was left to the descendants of Jacob as grazing area ( Gen 45.10  EU , 46.28.34 EU , 47.1.27 EU , 50.8 EU ) and only partially included in the Egyptian plagues ( Ex 8.18  EU , 9.4.26 EU , 10.23 EU , 12.23 EU ). The location has not yet been documented in Egyptian sources. Since Gen 47.11 EU speaks of  the "Land of Ramses", it is the area of the Ramses residence, possibly the Wadi Tumilat .

City of Goschem

The city of Goschem is located in Judah ( Jos 15.51  EU ). Their name also passed on to the landscape. ( Jos 10.41  EU , 11.16 EU ). It can probably be located in the hill country in southwest Palestine in the area of Hebron .
