The magazine Gottesdienst is a Roman Catholic pastoral liturgical specialist magazine in the German-speaking area and has been published by Herder since 1967 .

concept

The content of divine services is primarily shaped by the liturgical reform of the Second Vatican Council . To advance the liturgical renewal, to provide the necessary information, to shed light on the background, to explain new things and to deepen it spiritually is the stated aim of the magazine from the beginning.

The contributions include suggestions for a liturgical celebration culture, practical suggestions for individual celebrations, in-depth contributions to the theological, historical and spiritual foundations of the liturgy, information about background and tendencies, perspectives for medium-term and longer developments and references to useful and further literature.

The magazine's declared target group is everyone who is responsible for the life of worship or who are interested in liturgical questions: priests and deacons, pastoral assistants, parish officials, church musicians, religion teachers, worship officers as well as members of liturgical circles and parish councils.

history

In the course of the liturgical reform of the Second Vatican Council, the question quickly arose as to how the pastors, as the most important vehicle for their implementation, could be kept informed of current developments. The liturgical commission of the Fulda Bishops' Conference then decided at its 23rd session (September 9-12, 1965) to create its own “newsletter for the clergy”. Ultimately, the decision was made to use a bi-monthly magazine published by the liturgical institutes in Salzburg, Trier and Freiburg / Schw. should be issued. In 1966 Trier was agreed to be the headquarters of the editorial office in order to ensure close contact with the Liturgical Institute there. The first edition of Gottesdienst appeared on June 29, 1967 as a "pre-number", and on October 5, 1967, the first regular number was published.

Since issue 23–24 / 2017, the magazine has had a new layout and an expanded concept. In addition to the scientific articles, there were practical pages on the inside that were taken from the sister magazine praxis gottesdienst (worship models, introductions to the scriptures, etc.).

Auxiliary Bishop Jörg Michael Peters , Christoph Freilinger and Gunda Brüske are currently serving as the editorial board .
