Gottfried Keller (composer)
Gottfried (Godfrey) Keller (* around 1650, probably in Germany ; † November 1704 in London ) was a musician and composer of the Baroque period .
Life
Gottfried Keller moved to London and is said to have worked there primarily as a harpsichordist , continuo player , church musician and music teacher.
A collection of six sonatas has come down to us from Keller. Three sonatas of 5, for 2 violins, trumpet or oboe, viola and bc and another three trio sonatas for two flutes, oboes or violins and bc, dedicated to Queen Anne . In 1709 Estienne Roger published 6 trio sonatas for 2 flutes and bc under Keller's name.
Keller is the author of a posthumously published basso Method A Compleat Method for Attaining to Play a Thorough Bass upon Either organ, harpsichord, theorbo or lute-..... (John Cullen, 1707)
The court musician George Bingham put together four collections with a total of 173 Airs Anglois by several composers, which were published by Le Cêne between 1702 and 1706. The collections mainly contain works by Bingham and Gottfried Fingers , Keller is represented with two works.
