Gottfried Nicolai Angelo
(Theodor) Gottfried Nicolai Angelo (born October 9, 1767 in Schleswig , † June 21, 1816 in København ) was an engraver and teacher of maps at the Danish Royal Society of Sciences. His work includes a small number of maps , garden plans and a few portraits.
Life
Nothing is known about Angelo's parents. As a teenager in Schleswig, he received drawing lessons. In 1780 he went to Copenhagen and completed an apprenticeship in card and letter engraving at the Royal Society of Sciences. His teacher was CA Guitaer, and the training was paid for by the king of the entire Danish state .
After the death of his teacher in 1787, Angelo took over his position. Until 1800 he made a limited number of maps, plans and portraits. In 1804 his desire for permanent employment and higher pay was denied. His son Anton Angelo (1805–1873) became a painter.
