Gotthard Haslinger

Gotthard Haslinger OSB (born May 5, 1679 in Wels as Johann Haslinger , † July 31, 1735 in Linz ) was an Austrian Benedictine , university professor and from 1725 to 1735 abbot of Lambach Abbey .

Life

Gotthard Haslinger was born as Johann Haslinger in Wels on May 5, 1679 and made his profession on July 8, 1696 in Lambach Abbey . On November 4, 1704 he celebrated his first mass. In 1709 he became professor of philosophy at the Benedictine University of Salzburg , before turning to theological subjects in 1711. From 1716 to 1718 he was professor of controversial theology , from 1718 to 1722 professor of moral theology and from 1722 to 1725 professor of dogmatics , and in 1719/20 and 1724/25 dean of the theological faculty. Around two months after the death of Maximilian Pagl , he was elected abbot of his monastery on April 22, 1725. He resigned his teaching activities at the university, but from 1727 to 1730 he was one of the four permanent assistants on the Presidium of the Benedictine University.
