Gotthard Schmidtke

Gotthard Schmidtke (born September 17, 1911 in Braunschweig ; † June 27, 2000 in Friedland ) was a German music critic.

Life

Gotthard Schmidtke was the son of the lithographer and graphic artist Fritz Albert Schmidtke . After graduating from the Lessing School in Braunschweig, he studied cultural studies at the Bernhard Rust University for Teacher Training in Braunschweig. On October 24, 1937, he announced his resignation from the Hitler Youth and was then forced to de-register. From November 1933 to January 1935 he was an editor at the Braunschweiger Staatszeitung or the Braunschweiger Tageszeitung and the Braunschweiger Allgemeine Anzeiger, from May 15, 1938 to 1976, editor and music critic at the Braunschweiger Zeitung (BZ). From 1976 to 1999 he was a freelancer at BZ and wrote for the books of the Free Volksbühne Braunschweig.
