The Braunschweiger Tageszeitung was founded in 1931 by the NSDAP member and later Lord Mayor of Braunschweig, Wilhelm Hesse, as the "Combat Journal of National Socialism " in the city of Braunschweig and in the Free State of Braunschweig .

National Socialist Party Organ

The first edition of the Nazi propaganda organ appeared on October 1, 1931, the last on April 10, 1945, two days before the US Army occupied the city. The newspaper was, as it was called on the front page in the final phase of the Second World War , "... linked to the Braunschweiger Landeszeitung [and] Braunschweigischer Staatszeitung for the duration of the war ", it was an "official organ of the NSDAP and the authorities" and initially appeared in Hanover in 1931 , but from 1932 in Braunschweig.

On May 4, 1945, shortly before the end of the war, the Braunschweiger Bote , published by the 12th US Army Group , was published in Braunschweig, 24 days after the last issue of the NSDAP newspaper, the city's first post-war newspaper .
