Gotthard spear

Gotthard Speer (born February 27, 1915 in Kuhnern (Neumarkt district, Silesia); † March 23, 2005 in Bergisch Gladbach ) was a German music teacher.

life and work

Speer studied at the State University for Music Education in Berlin-Charlottenburg .

In 1947 he became a lecturer at the Paderborn Pedagogical Academy . Later he became a full professor for music education at the Pedagogical University of North Rhine-Westphalia, Cologne department. In 1955 he founded the Institute for East German Music in Bensberg , the predecessor of the Institute for German Music in the East in Bergisch Gladbach. This institute housed the collection for East German music maintenance and the working group for Silesian song and Silesian music .

Speer was intensely involved in the musical youth movement his entire life.
