Development history and technology

The first electric-powered minibus from Russia was developed by KAMAZ, Daimler and the vehicle research institute NAMI as well as the internet service provider Yandex and presented to the public in 2016 at the Moscow International Automobile Salon . Series production of the Schatl is scheduled to begin in 2022 . The bus can transport a maximum of twelve people and should be able to cover a distance of almost 200 kilometers with one charging process. It is controlled using 5G technology, certain predefined stopping points are controlled and the doors are automatically opened. An AI technology developed by Yandex supports driving on the road, which takes place at a maximum speed of 25 km / h. In 2018, the low-floor bus covered a 650-meter test route at an average speed of 10 km / h. The KamAZ-1221 is to be produced in different versions, namely with front or rear wheel drive or with all wheel drive .

KAMAZ boss Sergei Kogogin stated in 2018 that “electric and autonomously driving vehicles are currently among the main development directions in the Russian mechanical engineering industry,” according to Kogogin, other similar models or concept studies from the increasingly self-confident Russian vehicle market will follow. He further stated that specialists from KAMAZ are currently actively working on such models.
