The KamAZ-53212 ( Russian КамАЗ-53212 ) is a truck produced by the KAMAZ plant in Naberezhnye Chelny . The vehicle was the manufacturer's second standard truck and was built in series for 22 years, from 1980 to 2002. The model differs from its predecessor, the KamAZ-5320 , mainly in its increased payload and the associated modifications.

Planning for a flatbed truck with a ten-ton payload began at KAMAZ in the late 1970s. Functional prototypes were presented in 1979, series production began in 1980. Compared to the predecessor KamAZ-5320, the frame was reinforced, as were axles and cardan shafts. This enabled the payload to be increased by two tons, and the trailer load also increased. The platform was lengthened so that a floor space of almost 14 square meters was available.

There were no changes to the engine or transmission. It was only later that versions with an output of 260 hp (192 kW) were built, which could be achieved by modifying the previously used engine.

The GDR imported KamAZ-53212 vehicles between 1982 and 1989, just as they had already bought from their predecessor. In some cases, conversions were carried out to make the trucks suitable for forestry or other special tasks.

Production ended in 2002, although a successor, the KamAZ-53215, has been manufactured in parallel since 1995 . This also essentially differed in that the payload was increased again.
