The KamAZ-53501 ( Russian КамАЗ-53501 ), also known as the "Mustang" (Russian Мустанг), is a heavy all-wheel drive truck produced by the KAMAZ plant in Naberezhnye Chelny . The vehicle has been in series production since 2003 and is also designed for military applications. The truck is a version of the KamAZ-5350 with an increased payload.

In addition to the KamAZ-53501 with three axes, the second generation of the vehicle family also includes the KamAZ-63501 with four and the KamAZ-43501 with two axes.

KAMAZ started manufacturing the KamAZ-53501 as early as 2003, the same year the KamAZ-5350 was released. With a similar structure, the vehicle has a payload of ten tons, which is almost twice as much as its predecessor. The vehicle is powered by a large-volume diesel engine manufactured in-house by KAMAZ with a displacement of just under eleven liters. In contrast to trucks, which are only used for civil purposes, the gearbox is also manufactured in-house. It is a five-speed manual gearbox with a two-stage reduction, which means that ten gears are effectively available.

With large single tires, permanent all-wheel drive , off-road gear reduction and the ability to drive through bodies of water up to 1.75 meters deep, the vehicle is very off-road. Visually, it differs from the lighter KamAZ-5350 mainly in that it is a good half a meter shorter.

On the basis of the chassis of the KamAZ-53501, a fire truck is built in addition to the standard version. The AATS-5-40-200-50 truck is a combination of equipment truck and turntable ladder . There is also a tanker (type AZPT-10-53501 ) and a mobile excavator (type EOB-3522 ), which are based on the KamAZ-53501. The KamAZ-43114 and the KamAZ-43118 are visually similar, but historically and structurally they have nothing to do with the vehicle.
