The vehicle has only a short loading area, between this and the driver's cab there is a cabin for passenger transport. Howitzers are also mounted on the chassis. In addition to military bodies, various civil vehicles were also manufactured. Including a number of fire engines, especially for fire fighting at airports , as well as an all-terrain mobile crane .
A large-volume V8 diesel engine from the KAMAZ factory's own production is installed in the KamAZ-63501. The engine with a displacement of almost twelve liters develops 360 hp (265 kW). In contrast, the transmission is supplied by the German company ZF Friedrichshafen .
