The KamAZ-5350 ( Russian КамАЗ-5350 ), also known as the "Mustang" (Russian Мустанг), is a four -wheel drive truck produced by the KAMAZ plant in Naberezhnye Chelny . The vehicle has been in series production since 2003 and is also designed for military applications. With the KamAZ-53501 there is a version with an increased payload.

In addition to the KamAZ-5350 with three axes, there are also the KamAZ-6350 with four and the KamAZ-4350 with two axes.

The first prototypes of a new military truck were made in 1991. They already had the designation KamAZ-5350 and their properties were similar to the later series vehicles. A similar V8 diesel engine from our own production was installed, as was a transmission manufactured by KAMAZ itself. The payload was six tons. Up to and including 2002, however, there was no series production.

In 2003, the same year the KamAZ-53501 appeared, the factory began manufacturing the KamAZ-5350. At the time, the vehicle had a payload of six tons with a similar structure. A large-volume diesel engine manufactured in-house by KAMAZ with a displacement of almost eleven liters was installed. In contrast to trucks, which are only used for civil purposes, the gearbox was again manufactured in-house. It is a five-speed manual gearbox with a two-stage reduction, which effectively made ten gears available.

As of 2016, transmissions from the German company ZF Friedrichshafen will be installed. The displacement of the diesel engine was increased to 11.76 liters, which resulted in an increase in output from 260 hp (191 kW) to 280 hp (206 kW). In addition, the payload increased from six to almost seven and a half tons.

With large individual tires, permanent all-wheel drive and the off-road reduction, the vehicle is very off-road. Visually, it differs from the heavier KamAZ-53501 mainly in that the latter is a good half a meter longer.

Model variants

In addition to the basic version, which has been produced since 2003, there are various other variants that vary in particular due to the mounted superstructures. The list does not claim to be complete.

  • KamAZ-53502 - rear-wheel drive tractor unit (6 × 4) manufactured for military use since 2007 .
