Gotthard by Hansen

Gotthard Johann von Hansen , also Johann Gottfried von Hansen (born August 10, 1821 in Reval ; † August 28, 1900 there ) was a German-Baltic historian and city ​​archivist of Reval, Russia . He also published under the name G. Sprengfeld .

Life

Gotthard von Hansen was the son of the rent master and archivist Johann von Hansen and of Anna Dorothea geb. Jumping field. His pseudonym goes back to the maiden name of the mother. The Baltic German attended a grammar school in St. Petersburg . From 1841 he studied there Philology, from 1842 to 1846 at the University of Tartu Russian language and literature. In 1847 he married Henriette Ernestine Bienert in Reval.

From 1848 to 1854 he was a lecturer at the Forestry and Measurement Institute in St. Petersburg, from 1854 to 1885 senior teacher at the Gouvernements-Gymnasium in Reval and from 1872 to 1882 city councilor. From 1887 to January 1900 he was the city archivist.

Gottfried von Hansen continued the organization and development work in the city archive and published inventories as well as books and articles on the city's history.
