Gottlieb Biermann (historian)

Gottlieb Biermann (born April 12, 1828 in Pressburg , † February 10, 1901 in Prague ) was an Austrian historian and educator. His scientific work mainly related to the history of the Moravian - Silesian border area.

Life

After attending the Bratislava high school, Gottlieb Biermann studied theology and education in Jena . From 1848 to 1852 he worked as a private teacher in his hometown. In 1851 and 1852 he taught at the municipal secondary school in Pressburg. In 1852 he enrolled at the University of Vienna for history, geography, German studies and literature. After graduating, he worked for many years as a grammar school director in Teschen, Silesia . In 1873 he was promoted to director of the Imperial and Royal Higher School in Prague's Lesser Town .

Biermann wrote numerous treatises on the history of the Moravian-Silesian border area . He was best known for his extensive works on the principalities of Teschen , Troppau and Jägerndorf .
