Gottlieb Schneider (politician)

Gottlieb Schneider (born August 25, 1828 in Frutigen , † March 5, 1884 in Interlaken ) was a Swiss politician and judge . From 1857 to 1860 he was a member of the National Council.

biography

The son of a trader took part in the Sonderbund War in 1847 , later he was major and commander of the Reserve Battalion 89. Schneider studied theology in 1848/49, and from 1849 to 1853 law at the universities of Bern and Munich . In 1853 he received his patent as a lawyer and opened a law firm in Frutigen. From 1857 to 1869 he presided over the district court in Frutigen, after which he worked again as a lawyer in Interlaken.

Schneider represented radical liberal views, and his circle of friends included Federal Councilor Karl Schenk and the National Councilors Eduard Marti , Walther Munzinger and Johann Weber . From 1854 to 1857 he sat on the Grand Council of the Canton of Bern . He ran for the National Council elections in 1857 and was elected in the Oberland constituency; three years later he waived re-election. In 1863 he rejected the election to the Bern government council .
