Gottlieb Siegfried Bayer
Gottlieb Siegfried Bayer (* 1694 in Königsberg ; † 1738 in Saint Petersburg ), also Theophil Siegfried Bayer , was a philologist, historian and orientalist, one of the first academics of the Petersburg Academy of Sciences .
In Russian historiography, Bayer is considered to be the founder of the Scandinavian School. During his time in Petersburg he took an active part in the work of the academy and campaigned for its free development.
From 1730 he was a foreign member of the Prussian Academy of Sciences .
