Gottlob Reinhold Sievers (born June 25, 1811 in Hamburg ; † December 10, 1866 there ) was a German ancient historian and high school teacher. From 1834 he taught at the learned school of the Johanneum in Hamburg.

Life

Gottlob Reinhold Sievers was the cousin of Eduard Wilhelm Sievers and great-uncle of Wilhelm Sievers .

Sievers has been concerned with Greek history since his studies. The first phase of his work was dedicated to the classical era (5th / 4th century BC). He later expanded his work to include the imperial era and late antiquity .

His work was praised by experts in its time and for a long time formed the basis of research. His book on Libanios in particular remained the starting point for dealing with this author and his epoch into the 20th century.

In the Ohlsdorf cemetery , Gottlob Reinhold Sievers, among others, is commemorated on the collective grave slab of the Johanneum of the Althamburg Memorial Cemetery.
