Gottlob Rettenmaier (born October 10, 1910 in Crailsheim , † August 30, 1983 in Lindau (Bodensee) ) was a German portrait and landscape painter . One of his most famous paintings is a group portrait of Dr. Sell ​​and his students.

Life

Gottlob Rettenmaier was born in Crailsheim in 1910 as the son of Joseph and Caroline Rettenmaier, the youngest of 13 children. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich and was a master student of Professor Constantin Gerhardinger . Professor Gerhardinger was a co-founder of the Chiemsee artist group “ Die Frauenwörther ” (Chiemseer Kreis). After the war the painter settled in Lindau on Lake Constance, lived and worked there as a freelance artist until the end of his life. He was a sought-after portrait and landscape painter. In the early days of his work he worked in Wilhelm Leibl's Prima Pastosa manner. In the following phase, an impressionistic style came increasingly to the fore.
