Govardhan

Govardhan ( bl. Approx. 1596–1656) was an important painter of the Mughal Empire .

Born the son of another painter named Bhavānīdās, he worked under the rulers Akbar I (r. 1556-1605), Jahangir (r. 1605-1627) and Shah Jahan (r. 1627-1658). The works he has received show his rich and sensual choice of colors as well as a painting style with soft forms and realistic reproduction of the anatomical features of the Indians. He himself is depicted in a portrait by the painter Daulat .

Govardhan was one of the illustrators of the Jahangir albums , which are now in various museums in Europe and America, as well as the work Baburnama , the memoirs of the first Mughal Mughal Babur, kept in the British Museum . One of his most important works with the title "Jahangir celebrates the Ab-Pashi Festival" (created 1615) is now in the Raza library in Rampur .
