Basil Hatim
Basil A. Hatim (born November 19, 1947 in Nineveh ) is an Iraqi-British translator , interpreter , linguist and professor . He has published publications on applied linguistics , text linguistics , translation / interpreting and English as a second language (TESOL).
Career
Basil Hatim was born in Iraq and studied in Iraq, Lebanon and the UK . In 1980 he became Director of Studies in Arabic at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh and a year later he received his PhD in Applied Linguistics and Translation from the University of Exeter . He has since lectured at universities in the UK, Europe and the Middle East . Since 1999 he has been Professor of Translation and Interpreting in the Faculty of Arabic and Translation Studies at the American University of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates .
