The burial ground at Ingjaldshögen is a burial ground in the Swedish province of Södermanland County . It is located in ( småort ) Husby in Strängnäs municipality .

The burial ground includes the Ingjaldshögen burial mound , about 30 round stone settings , one square and one rectangular stone setting, two Treuddar and two building stones . It is dated to the 9th century AD.

Ingjaldshögen is located on the now silted Kaviken Bay, in the center of the burial ground. In the hill, which was examined as early as 1919, there was a roe under which there was a 20 cm thick, extensive concentration of ash that contained human and animal bones. Urns , game pieces and other artifacts , including combs and a glass bowl, were also recovered. The Husby royal court was near Ingjaldshögen.

Legend

The name goes back to the mythical Ynglinger king Ingjald Illråde, a son of Anund, who is said to have lived in the 7th century. He is said to have been the father and predecessor of King Olaf Trätelgja . The name was assigned to the hill at the time. Ingjald is said to be buried on Tosterön .

Nearby is the rune stone Åsbyblocket (or Sö 324).
