Vedeby burial ground
The burial ground of Vedeby is one of the largest burial grounds in the Swedish province of Blekinge län and the historic province of Blekinge in Sweden . It is located near Lyckeby , near the intersection of the E 22 and Österleden, and is 175 × 110 meters in size.
The visible monuments include 20 building stones (five cube-shaped), seven preserved burial mounds (of 31), two remains of ship settlements (of six), five preserved stone settlements (of eight) and 17 Treudds . There are probably graves that have no markings above ground. They were built from the early Iron Age to the early Middle Ages .
During the 18th century a number of so-called Amiralsgårdar were built around Karlskrona. Vedeby Herrgård was built nearby. The farm was owned by the Ehrensvärd family for a long time until it burned down in the 1950s. As with other farms, it was given a garden in which the Vedeby burial ground was integrated as a picturesque element.
The smaller grave fields Karlskrona 126 and Karlskrona 123, which were archaeologically examined between 2009 and 2012, border directly to the north and northeast.
