history

Grötzingen is first mentioned in a document in 817. From 1270 to the 14th century the place is mostly called Kirchgrötzingen , from 1292 to the 18th century Westerdorf . Both are probably names of former districts. A noble family from Grötzingen appears in the 12th / 13th centuries. Century.

The place was since 1270 Württemberg fiefdom of the barons of Freyberg and part of the rule of Steusslingen until its reversal in 1581. After that, Grötzingen became part of the Württemberg office of Steusslingen under the Vogt or Oberamtmann with seat at Neusteusslingen Castle . In 1806 the place was assigned to the Oberamt Steusslingen and from 1810 to the Oberamt Ehingen .
