Großschafhausen is a district of the community Schwendi in the district of Biberach in Upper Swabia .

history

The parish village is located in the valley of the Rot , two kilometers north of Schwendi.

In 1182 there is a first documentary mention as "Schafhusen" owned by the Rot an der Rot monastery. Changing affiliations to the Rot an der Rot monastery and Ochsenhausen determined the history of the place until 1825. In this year the place was incorporated into the Kingdom of Württemberg .

During the Thirty Years War the place was sacked and looted in 1634. Together with the occurrence of the plague, this led to the place becoming extinct at the end of the war. Afterwards there was a resettlement by emigrants from Tyrol .

Shortly before the end of the Second World War , on Monday, April 16, 1945, several buildings in the small town were badly damaged in a bomb attack. Eleven people died.

On January 1, 1972, Großschafhausen was incorporated into Schwendi.
