Green Party Thurgau
The Green Party Thurgau (Green Thurgau ) is a cantonal party of Green Switzerland .
history
The Thurgau Green Party was founded as one of the first green cantonal parties on December 15, 1983 in Weinfelden with 16 members. At the delegates' meeting on March 24, 1984, the Greens Thurgau joined the Federation of Green Switzerland . There are five district parties and also some local parties, the number of members is around 180 (as of July 2019).
There is also the Young Greens Thurgau, which is part of Young Green Switzerland . The Green Women Thurgau were founded in 2019.
In 2007 the Greens Thurgau discussed internally the formation of a party with the double name Greens / Green Liberals. On January 9th, 2008 glp Thurgau was split off / founded by the Greens Thurgau.

successes
The Greens Thurgau led a committed campaign against the Thurtalstrasse T14 . On September 25, 2005, a cantonal vote on the T14 expansion took place, which was rejected with 52% no votes.
In addition, the Greens Thurgau were involved in initiative committees and in voting campaigns, for example in spatial planning, the principle of publicity or against flat-rate taxation .
Seats in the National Council
The first seat of the National Council of the Green Thurgau was won by Peter Schmid on October 18, 1987 . With a list connection with the LdU and the "Fresh Wind", Peter Schmid was elected with 12,614 votes. The Greens' share of the vote at that time was 10.7%. For the second term of office, Peter Schmidt was then re-elected on October 20, 1991 with 13,972 votes. The Green Thurgau's share of the vote was 9.1%.
Kurt Egger was elected to the National Council on October 20, 2019 . The Green Thurgau grew from 5.4% in 2015 to 10.6%. The list connection with SP and glp ensured that the seat of the FDP moved to the Greens.
Schmid was President of Green Switzerland from 1987 to 1990, and Gina Rüetschi was Vice President of Green Switzerland from 2016 to 2018.

The Greens Thurgau form their own parliamentary group in the Cantonal Council (130 seats in total).
