Peter Schmid (born October 4, 1940 in Kreuzlingen ) is a Swiss politician ( Greens ) and curative educator .

Peter Schmid co-founded the Thurgau Green Party in 1983 and was its first president for the first two years. Between 1984 and 1987 he sat as a Green in the Thurgau cantonal parliament .

In March 1987 he was elected President of the Swiss Green Party, founded in 1983, and after three years he was replaced by Irène Gardiol from western Switzerland . In autumn 1987 he was elected to the National Council . Peter Schmid was confirmed in this office in 1991. Cooperation across parliamentary groups was a key concern for him. In 1995 he missed his re-election by only 50 votes.

Peter Schmid grew up in Kreuzlingen and attended primary and secondary school there. In 1956 he entered the Thurgau teacher training college. After working as a primary school teacher , he studied pedagogy, philosophy and curative education at the University of Zurich from 1963 . He worked as a school psychologist and was then a long-time lecturer at the curative education seminar in Zurich (1973 to 2000). Because of the National Council mandate, he reduced his workload as a lecturer for curative education to 50 percent, an increase was not possible after being voted out. From 1996 to 2004 he worked as a deputy governor, part-time examining magistrate, in the Steckborn district .

Peter Schmid is married and has three children. He moved his residence from Hüttwilen to Frauenfeld .
