Scaphiophryne marmorata is a species of amphibian in the family -mouthed (Microhylidae).

features

The species reaches a length of 48 millimeters. The upper side of the body is covered with innumerable more or less thorny warts. The belly and underside of the thighs are granulated. A fold of skin extends from the eye to the shoulder. The top of the body is green with black marbling. An hourglass-shaped black spot begins between the eyes. The limbs have wide, black cross bars at the top. The fingers' adhesive discs are pink on top. The underside of the body is black with yellow marbling. The body shape is compact. The head is small. The front head is very short and triangular, the rein area slopes down vertically. The intraorbital space is as wide as an upper eyelid. The first finger is shorter than the second. The toes are connected by short webbed feet at their base . The subarticular bumps of the toes are significantly smaller than those of the fingers. There is a large, scoop-shaped metatarsal cusp and a small cusp below the tibiotarsal joint . With the hind leg pushed forward against the body, the tarsometatarsal joint reaches the eye.

Occurrence

Scaphiophryne marmorata occurs in central, eastern Madagascar from Zahamena to Andasibe in the south at altitudes of 100 to 1000 meters.

The species was first described by George Boulenger in 1882 .
