Grünofant

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Grünofant was a brand for a milk ice cream on a stick from the companies Langnese and Eskimo that was available in the 1970s .

It consisted of vanilla ice cream with a core of Waldmeister ice cream and had a green, Waldmeister-flavored fat glaze. The popsicle, launched in 1975, cost 50 pfennigs . In the first few years the fat glaze was light green and covered the upper half of the ice cream so that the vanilla ice cream peeked out in the lower part. From 1978 the ice was covered from top to bottom with a dark green woodruff glaze. In the same year, the ice cream was withdrawn from the market because of the harmful ingredients in the artificial woodruff aroma, coumarin .

The packaging of the ice was adorned with a round green elephant, which was also used as an advertising medium on ice cream boards, in magazines and for commercials.

In the aftermath of the 1970s retro wave, Grünofant was listed in books and magazines alongside Dolomiti and Brown Bear as one of the cult varieties of the 1970s . In contrast to other types, however, the ice cream has not yet been brought back onto the market.
