Eskimo is an Austrian ice cream brand of the Unilever group.

history

Eskimo was founded in 1927 as a brand for the ice cream business of the Austrian MIAG , later sold to the Austrian Unilever AG . In 1962, the frozen food production was taken over by Hans Petter in Raasdorf , near Vienna. In 1965, production was relocated to the joint 1st combined ice cream & frozen food production in Groß-Enzersdorf for “Eskimo” and - presumably for the first time so called - “Iglo”.

In 1970 the Unilever subsidiary Eskimo Eis / Petter Iglo TKK merged with the Nestlé subsidiary Jopa Eis / Findus TKK to form Eskimo-Iglo GmbH (Unilever 75%, Nestlé 25%). While ice cream production was discontinued in 1998, the brand name “Eskimo” remained for the ice cream , which has since been imported from Germany , still marketed as Eskimo . Eskimo is now being distributed in Austria by Unilever Austria GmbH . For the company's history, see also Eskimo-Iglo . Even before the “Heartbrand” logo was established, the Eskimo logo was similar to the Langnese logo.

Some very popular types of ice cream are only sold in Austria.

Brand names in other countries

The ice creams of the Unilever ice cream line are sold under the name under which the range was known before the takeover due to their high level of awareness. The company logo , which is known as the "Heartbrand", is, however, the same in all countries.

Although the Russian company Inmarko was also taken over by Unilever, the logo was not adapted until later. The product range is largely similar to that of Eskimo, but has been supplemented with traditional Russian products.
