Burial mound at Reichertsham

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The burial mounds at Reichertsham are barrows of unknown time in the Upper Bavarian municipality of Babensham . The graves have the protection status of a ground monument and are kept by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation under the file number  D-1-7939-0005 .

Location and description

The three burial mounds are located in the Streitforst , only a few hundred meters away from the much better known foundling Bräundlstein . They are located a good 600 meters southwest of Reichertsham (Babensham municipality) and about 4 kilometers southeast of Babensham itself. The smallest burial mound can hardly be seen today, the other two are clearly visible. The largest of these is now about two meters high and almost 30 meters in diameter. Strikingly, only deciduous trees grow on all three hills, but in the forest outside there are almost only conifers.

The burial mounds were already known in 1839, but only two of them. The graves are also mentioned in a book from 1928 on the history of the Schnaitsee parish .

In the Museum Wasserburg various historical finds are exhibited from the area and also the grave hill at Reichertsham be there as cemeteries of the Hallstatt period shown. This time is not given by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation.
